John O’Groats to Land’s End Charity Bike Ride,,,

On the 25th August 2022 Mick Scott and Paul Hackett will set off from John O’Groats on an epic 9 day cycling trip to Land’s End in aid of three charities, Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation and The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory.

The journey will consist of 1526km / 948miles of cycling using some of Britain’s very busy A roads and also navigating through some major cities and towns along the way which may sound daunting to some but for these 2 endurance cyclists nothing will stand in their way to get to the finish line.

Mick is a builder from Milton Keynes and he started cycling at the end of 2021 in a bid to lose the three stone he had gained through not being as active as normal during the Covid 19 lockdowns.

Within a short period of regular cycling he was back down to 12 stone and was enjoying the freedom of the open roads so much he started planning longer and longer rides which added to the fun factor more than he had anticipated.

Mick wanted to do something for charity by means of a bike ride but also wanted it to be something a bit bigger than a few 100kms.

The idea of cycling from one end of the country to the other soon began to develop although planning to do a totally unsupported event like this would not be wise to attempt it on his own.

Paul used to cycle everywhere as a kid although once he passed his driving test his bike soon became obsolete. He didn’t really get back on a bike again until 2015 which was to try and get fitter by cycling to work which was 7 miles away.

The cycling bug did not take long to bite and pretty soon 70 mile sportive rides became a regular thing and a brand new Carbon framed bike was purchased after a few years to make his longer rides even more enjoyable.

Having now completed the 100 mile Birmingham Velo in 2017 & 2019 as well as cycling 115 miles from Birmingham to London Paul was also thinking of doing something bigger than he had ever done before and didn’t hesitate in saying yes when he received a message from Mick asking if he fancied doing the JOGLE.
